HOW TO PROPERLY DISPOSE OF ORGANIC CHOICE CLEANING WIPES

Our Organic Choice Multi-Purpose naturally derived bamboo wipes is easy on your cleaning routine, as well as being easy on the environment.

While we don’t claim they are 100% biodegradable (however compared to the Poly/Viscose alternatives they are discernibly better for the environment!), over the months our staff have been road testing the cleaning wipes at home to see how they degrade in compost and soils.

First things first. Please dispose of cleaning wipes “eco-responsibly” after use. This means no flushing down the toilet, no tossing the wet cloth into a plastic bag or bin.

If you want to dispose of your cleaning wipes for the purpose of biodegrading them; take your used wipes and dry them flat. Once dry, there are 2 ways we have tested out to decompose the used wipes.

We put Organic Choice to the test and here are our findings…

1. Biodegradability Test – Soil

Method: We buried a sample in soil in the garden on 17/7/2018 and dug it back up on 11/8/2018.
Results: nothing found – not one piece at all.

Re-Test

Method: We buried a new sample 11/8/2018 and checked again 7/9/2018
Results: Again not a single piece could be found.

One Week Test

Method: For comparison we dug up our test after 1 week to see how much of the cleaning wipe was left.
Results: You can see it is already well into the decomposing stages
Our conclusion: Based on these tests, we found the cleaning wipes to bio-degrade within 4 weeks in soil.

2. Biodegradability Test – Compost

Method: We laid it on top of liquid compost in a black bin on 17/7/2018.
Results: We checked again on 7/9/2018 and we can observe it partially breaking down, but not as quickly as the soil test. One week later we observed that the piece floating on top of the compost bin ‘liquid’ has completely dissolved.

So there you have it! Our Organic Choice Multi-Purpose naturally derived bamboo wipes appear to biodegrade in soil within 4 weeks’ time. We are very proud of this result as it shows that with a little extra effort, we can enjoy the convenience of using a multi-purpose cleaning wipe, but also take care in being environmentally responsible when disposing of them.
