4 TIPS TO CLEAN YOUR DRAINS LIKE A PRO

Do your drains ever become clogged, have suspicious smells coming from them or drain painfully slowly? You’re not alone! It is extremely common for household drains to become clogged and cause us a plethora of annoying problems. Let’s be honest, we would all rather be binge watching Netflix than clean our cloggy drains on a Sunday, but alas, #adulting. To make things a little easier, here are four tips to clean your drains like a PRO, so you can spend less time de-clogging, and more time hogging the TV.

1. Pull your hair out

Prevention is key here: you want to pull your hair out (of the shower) before you “pull your hair out” in frustration because you can’t take a shower due to a blocked drain! Look, there is something extremely weird about touching your hair that has fallen off your head – we don’t know what it is but it gives us the creeps. In saying this, if you are cleaning a bathroom sink or shower drain you may find it’s hair that is clogging it up. You DON’T want to wash it down, since this often just moves the blockage deeper in the drain and makes it all the more daunting to deal with. Chuck on those rubber gloves pull that hair out! Stat!

2. Let the food go to waste

We will never be advocates of any type of food wastage (for humans) but when it comes to your kitchen drain, then we want everything to go down, down, down… not up, up, up. If you are dealing with a blocked kitchen drain situation, then it is mostly food (in particular oily food) that stays in the pipes and causes blockages and also some questionable smells… If hot water isn’t enough to get rid of a blockage then it’s time to bring out the drain cleaner again! Drain cleaner breaks down food particles much better than hot water, and will eliminate those suspicious odours. Make sure to use a natural drain cleaner such as Actizyme to avoid pipe damage and damage to the environment. Reminder: it goes without saying; do not pour oil down the sink!

3. Consistency is Key

Like we keep saying; it’s all about prevention, people! Nobody wants to think about keeping their drains clear all the time, but if you simply pour some hot water and drain treatment down your drains about once every two weeks, this should keep them in tip-top condition (and save you a lot of grief in the future). Our Actizyme drain treatment is an all-natural formula that will clear up the problem of blocked drains and bad odours quickly and easily with safe, natural and environmentally responsible drain cleaning pellets! It’s non-toxic to pets, people and kids (so you don’t have to worry about storing them in Fort Knox). Best of all, they are grey water and septic safe, so your gardens will actually thank you for it. Find Actizyme in Coles, Woolworths, Mitre 10, IGA and other hardware outlets, or it’s available online here.

4. Final Parting Tips

  • Don’t run too much water down your drain when there is a serious clog-up, it can cause an overflow and make it much harder to defeat that blockage.

  • The hotter the water is – the better it will work.

  • When you want to beat that grime; bring out your Actizyme.
