SURPRISING AND UNUSUAL FRUITS & VEGGIES YOU CAN GROW AT HOME

Growing your own fruits and veggies is great for saving money, maintaining the environment, and enjoying a fun activity to practise a slow living lifestyle. You know what’s even more fun – growing unusual ones! It’s great to know what you have in the back garden can’t be found in your regular supermarket, and makes it all the more exciting to look after them.

1. Dragon Fruit
Dragon fruit is most commonly grown is Asia, but is becoming much more popular globally. It has a texture similar to a kiwi fruit and tastes similar to a melon. This unusual fruit can be grown around the world, it’s reasonably drought tolerant, but does appreciate regular watering. Get it going in your garden and feel that little bit more tropical!

2. Rainbow Carrots
Rainbow carrots are a great way to add some colour to your garden and plant something a bit different. They taste pretty much the same as normal carrots but are much more fun to look at! If you buy a seed packet of rainbow carrots you’ll generally get a mix of purple, white, orange, yellow and red. They are super simple to take care of too.

3. Cucamelons
Cucamelons look like a tiny watermelon – so cute! Cucamelons are about the size of a grape, and taste like lime and cucumbers. They prefer a warmer climate to grow and don’t like frost, but if you live in a colder area you can grow them in pots inside your home. Very adorable!

4. Alpine Strawberries
Alpine Strawberries are small and delicious with a big flavour hit. They tolerate a large diversity of soils, but prefer a spot with full sunlight to grow. Alpine Strawberries are great to take up ground cover and help discourage weeds from growing through. Winner!
