WHAT IS ACTIZYME?

We’re shining a small, energy saving spotlight on our silent achiever: Actizyme!

For over 40 years, ACTIZYME has been unblocking Aussie drains and removing smelly odours. We’re proud of this Australian made and owned product, but it’s been cruising quietly under the radar for far too long. Without further ado, we’ve put together an FAQ to introduce you to the world of eco-friendly, 100% bio-degradable natural drain cleaning.

Where can it be used?

ACTIZYME can be used safely pretty much anywhere. The enzymes themselves are naturally occurring throughout our ecosystem and even within our own bodies to help breakdown and digest proteins, grease, fats, vegetable matter and so on. Our saliva (Amylase) is one of the first enzymes in our digestive system used to begin the digestive process. You can use Actizyme in DRAINS, GREASE TRAPS, TOILETS (whether septic or sewer), in every area of the home and industry. Showers, kitchens, laundries, waste treatment areas, septic pits or wherever there is a drain that will gradually block up or smells that needs removing.

Can Actizyme be used in dishwashers?

Yes – as there is normally a build up of organic waste in sumps of dishwashers, Actizyme works really well in digesting these quickly and efficiently to eliminate odours and ‘bad’ bacteria. Add 1/2 teaspoon straight into the base of the machine and run a cold or warm (not hot) water cycle.

How quickly will it act?

This depends on the level and nature of blockage. Normally you will notice some improvement within 24 hours, but it may be a few weeks for very blocked drains. Note that if ACTIZYME is used regularly the drains would normally not get blocked in the first place!

If the blockage is caused by hair, it may take some time to be removed as hair breaks down slowly. It WILL help but it may take some weeks to clear the blockage and it needs repeated application. In some cases, it may be quicker to remove the ‘U’ bend under the sink and manually clear it. Ongoing ACTIZYME treatment will keep it free from future blockages.

When is the best time to dose?

ACTIZYME is best dosed last thing at night or if you are leaving your house for holidays or long weekends etc. This allows Actizyme to work, by allowing the pellets to remain in the system overnight or longer. Repeat once a month or follow on pack instructions.

Is Actizyme septic safe?

ACTIZYME was originally designed to help septics work at maximum efficiency. Septic systems are especially prone to being ‘killed off’ by today’s nasty chemicals (especially the caustic drain cleaners and other anti-bacterial cleaners) and ACTIZYME helps boost the septics enzyme/bacteria system, allowing it to function well without any nasty odours. ACTIZYME also assists by keeping the absorption trenches clear of blockages.

an the water from the drains be used on the garden?

Enzymes are a natural part of the ecosystem and as such are harmless to the garden. If anything, they will ensure a quicker conversion of soil and other leaf material into good garden compost. A win-win for your plants.

Are enzymes safe for the environment?

Yes – the enzymes used in ACTIZYME are completely biodegradable and safe for the environment. In fact, they are beneficial to the environment!

Why shouldn’t I use chemical caustic drain cleaners?
Caustic chemicals may be inexpensive, but there is a price paid for using these dangerous chemicals. There is a real danger of caustic (alkaline) burning to skin/eyes and even an explosion risk in the drainage system itself, depending on what other chemicals it mixes with in your drain. We believe the danger is so high that these products should not be allowed for general usage – even with all the warnings they contain.

ACTIZYME works better long term compared to other caustic based drain cleaners. Caustic products offer little residual effect and actually kill off any good enzymes/bacteria in your system thereby often leading to the return of unpleasant odours and subsequent blocking. They can’t be used in septic systems for this reason.

Are your products tested on animals?

None of our products have ever, nor will they ever be tested on animals.

You can find ACTIZYME in the cleaning aisle at leading supermarkets, the plumbing section at hardware outlets, and online at www.actizyme.com.au
